About this page
The motivation for this site was very simple. I wanted to try out the Sortes Virgilianae and didn't have a full set of The Aeneid available at hand. The next best thing I thought, would be to find an online generator. When I realized there wasn't already a site that did this I realized the burden had fallen on my shoulders to make sure that no one else would ever endure the same pain I did at seeing the lackluster search results.
A note about the translation
One of the decisions I made going in that could be a bit polarizing is taking a latin-first approach. This felt important to me since the source material was in Latin. Personally, as a long-time skeptic, bibliomancy as a concept is a bit difficult for me to accept. However, I can suspend my disbelief for the love of the tradition and history behind it. If the text were translated before drawing the lots however, statistically since latin doesn't map cleanly line-per-line with English, I feel like I would be messing with the fundamental statistics of the 'magic' behind the divination.
Since I took a latin-first approach however, you can rest assured that you will be experiencing the most authentic Sortes Virgilianae divination one can have without a physical book in front of them.
